South Asia in the Global DPI Moment: Opportunities & Challenges

Globesight, in partnership with the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), Bangladesh, convened high-level practitioners and stakeholders from across South Asia for a regional dialogue on “South Asia in the Global DPI Moment: Opportunities and Challenges” in Islamabad, to exchange knowledge and accelerate momentum for a sustainable and equitable Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) ecosystem.

The robust discussion produced several important takeaways:

  • Interoperability efforts across South Asia highlight that technology alone is insufficient; effective DPI depends on governance clarity, policy alignment, and coordinated data-sharing frameworks.
  • Trust and data governance remain critical gaps; without privacy protections, transparency, and accountability, DPI risks reinforcing control rather than empowerment.
  • Successful use-cases emerge from a people-centred approach that links identity, payments, and public service delivery through adaptive and inclusive design, continuous feedback, and context-specific models.

We are grateful to all the participants from across the region for their insights and commitment to shaping an inclusive and connected South Asia. Globesight is excited to continue this conversation with convenings across the countries to support avenues for collective progress in the region. Keep a lookout for detailed insights and next steps from the dialogue.
