Irfan Tariq has an extensive experience of 34 years in environment and climate change, including the most coveted position of Director General (Env. & CC) at the Ministry of Climate Change for more than nine years. He has also served as:
- Chair, Sustainable Production Consumption Board (2022-2024)
- Vice Chair/Rapporteur UNFCCC Bureau, elected in 2018 in COP 24 from Asia Pacific Constituency
- Vice Chair, WG I of IPCC, for AR 6 Cycle
- Member, CDM Executive Board, UNFCCC (2014 to date)
- Member, Consultative Group of Experts on National Communications from Parties not included in Annex-I (CGE) of UNFCCC, elected to represent Asia Pacific (2013)
- Member, Steering Committee of Sanitation and Water for All, elected from South Asian governments constituency (2011-2015)
- Member, Steering Committee Asia LEDS Programme (2015)
He has earned Master’s in Built Environment from the Development Planning Unit, The Bartlett, University College London, UK; a Diploma in Development of Land Information System from the National Land Survey of Sweden, Gavle, Sweden; and a bachelor’s in architecture from the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, Pakistan. He has also attended 7th Senior Management Course at the National School of Public Policy, Lahore, Pakistan.
